S.A.M. Volunteer Program -
What's it all About?

Howdy! I'm Chuck Lehr.

and my job it is to coordinate the needs of the National Council Officers / Appointees with the talents of a database of S.A.M. volunteers.

I need your help. While we all qualify as the world's greatest magician, many of our activities require non-magical skills. The Council needs to know if you're a graphic artist, an accountant, lawyer, investment analyst, ethics, membership recruitment, etc. If you have any of these unique skills and you'd like to get in my Volunteer Database, contact me at klownchuck@aol.com

Here's how the Volunteer Program works.

Volunteer Coordinator (that's me) is an appointed chairperson of the S.A.M. National President. Volunteers state their desire to help at the National level - their talents are advertised among the Council members. If a need exists, the volunteer information is coordinated with the requesting Council member.

The task begins with YOU. When you complete your membership application or renewal - if you check the "Volunteer" block, the National Administrator provides me with this information. Or - you might simply contact me about your desire to help. I get back with you, explaining the program and gathering profile information.

So I have a your name. If and when you respond, two actions follow:

I add the profile information to my database. Then, I provide members of the National Council and appointees with the information using "The Volunteer Gazette". Personal information is not provided at this point -- just the general data about the your capabilities/talents.

Should a Council Officer/appointee express a desire for more information, I then provide the requester with personal contact info.

Talent Summary to the Council Officers/appointees. To remind the Council officers and appointees; occasionally, I provide a summary of all of the talents included in my database. That is; a list of capabilities of all volunteers. This is a way of keeping the volunteer program in the forefront of the Council's mind, and may prompt them to share some of their workload.

Specific Requests for a Volunteer's Services. There are occasions when the volunteer coordinator is requested to review the database of volunteers for specific talents; i.e., someone with an accounting background. I search my database, and make a judgment to do one of two things:

1 - provide the requester with contact info and background of all those volunteers with matching requirements - or

2 - directly contact the qualified volunteers and determine their interest in participating. Then, I arrange a channel of communication between YOU and the requestor.

That's my story, and I'm stickin' with it.

Chuck Lehr
