About the Veteran's Program

I am honored to serve as the new chairperson of the Veterans Program of the Society of American Magicians. One goal of our fine worldwide organization is for all members to use our magical talents to brighten up the day of anyone experiencing challenges. The Veterans Program is designed to encourage S.A.M. members to visit Veteran's Hospitals and other places that veterans gather to bring them laughs, smiles, a sense of wonder, and marvelous magical entertainment!

We hope you will take a look at the long list of Veteran's Hospitals available on this website to identify one near you. Then please contact them to offer a magic performance. Sharing your magic this way will surely be a satisfying way to spread the goodwill of the S.A.M., have fun, and say "Thank You" to those who have served our country.

The success of this program depends solely on the efforts and generosity of S.A.M. members. I encourage every member to take a little time and volunteer, the rewards will surely be far greater than the small sacrifice. You will find many valuable resources on the links above to help you plan and publicize your performances.

Please let me know how I may assist you, or what I may do to help you encourage other members of your Assembly to also donate their time and talents to entertain veterans. Wonderful timing for these performances would be during National Magic Week, and of course these special visits would be greatly appreciated on (or around) any holiday. Of course any time of the year your magic will be well appreciated by these deserving audiences!

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I look forward to making new friends and meeting many more of you as a result of this wonderful program.

Best regards,

Debbie Leifer

Goals of the Veteran's Program

The goal of the Veterans Program is to perform at least one show annually at every VA Hospital in the country. That is a challenging goal, but with a little help from a lot of people, it is achievable. Although our primary goal is to perform at every VA Hospital in the country, this does not preclude our members from performing at other, not for profit, Veterans venues.

Insignia & Recognition

To the left is the insignia of the Veterans Program. It is the traditional support ribbon formed from a magic wand. In the center is the adopted symbol of veterans, the "buddy poppy". Overlaid on the poppy is the emblem of the S.A.M.

The Veterans Program insignia has been made into a lapel pin and will be presented to all S.A.M. members who volunteer and perform through the Veterans Program. To qualify for an award a member must have participated as a performer or as a support member at the show.
